Caroline Sutherland Newsletter
November 2006

Hello Everyone!

This month I would like to focus on children. What a world - what a place to raise a child. Every week in my travels I look out into a sea of faces. So many people are coping with health challenges. If only we could have reached parents and their children at an early age and intervened on their behalf. Would we be faced with so many health and emotional problems as adults? I don't think so.

I would like to think that today's parents are doing their best to build their children's self esteem, nourish and nurture them properly, but I know this is not the case.

In this newsletter, I would like to give you some strategies for helping your children. Let's start now - with us!

Health and vitality are so important to me. My newsletter is an important way for us to stay connected. It is my great joy to continue to be in touch with you through this newsletter and to help you to stay motivated on your path to optimum wellness.

I also want to let you know that when I mention a product or service, I am only doing it to tell you about something that I think is worthwhile. I do not have any financial affiliations with any of the services or products I recommend.
Blessings, Caroline

Our Children are Watching Us

Have you heard the expression "Children Learn What They Live." Children are always watching us. Just look at your own life and the patterns that were handed to you by your parents.
I need to check in once in a while and watch what I am doing. All of a sudden I realize - oops here is something that my mother used to do. Then I look and see that my daughters may have adopted the same unconscious behaviors.

The other day a woman came up to me after one of my classes and told me that she never cooked. She had never turned on an oven and she was 36 years of age. She had a 14 year old son and she only bought convenience food and heated it in the microwave oven.

After giving her a few pointers and some recipes, I made a comment which hit home with her. Your son is looking at you, watching you and forming his impressions of the next important female in his life - his mate. How would you like him to choose a person who may be attractive and intelligent but who may not be interested in being healthy or like to cook or care for him or his future family? She stayed very quiet - the realization struck a chord with her.

Column: A Child with ADHD

The Body Knows Ask a Medical Intuitive

Dear Caroline, My nine year old son David suffers from ADHD and has learning disabilities. What can I do instead of putting him on medication which seems to be what everyone else suggests?
Maureen M., Fairfield Iowa

Dear Maureen,
The diagnosis of learning disabilities and ADHD can be very worrying for a parent. Take care not to take this belief into your own consciousness. Remember, The Body Knows and with focus and several useful strategies your son can overcome this.

Here is a story that will give you some hope.
Ten-year-old Maureen was brought to me because she had learning disabilities. She was in a special class for children with learning problems, and despite all the psychological testing and techniques that her parents tried, she did not respond. Maureen was bloated and overweight, and I of course suspected the usual food allergies. According to the mother, the child seemed to be constantly eating especially sweets and carbohydrates. We just cant seem to keep her out of the cupboards, she said.
Because I had witnessed so many children just like her in a clinical setting, I suggested that she implement a Candida yeast eradication program for four weeks and discontinue sugar in any form and dairy products for the same period of time. Within a month, the mother called to say that Maureens handwriting, spelling, and reading had improved to the point where she was ready to integrate into a regular classroom for certain subjects. Her teachers were stunned at the change in Maureen. Our prayers have been answered, the mother said. Shes a different child.

Useful Strategies:

Diet: Experiment with a 5 7 day elimination diet: Remove all dairy products, sugars, chemicals and food additives from the diet and observe a different child. Then re-introduce these items one at a time and note the reaction. Then, avoid all offending foods.

Candida Yeast Eradication: Multiple exposures to antibiotics can contribute to Candida Yeast overgrowth which compounds a multitude of problems: Learning disabilities, memory problems, over-eating, food and chemical sensitivities and behavioral outbursts.

Eradicate:Take supplements to eradicate Candida Yeast. These are readily available at your local health food store.

Recolonize: Replace beneficial bacteria in the lower colon with probiotics/acidophilus.

Chemicals: Children with behavior problems can also be very reactive to chemicals. Remove perfume, room spray and scented laundry soaps from your home.

Brain Gym: Check out Educational Kinesiology, Edu-K or Brain Gym now taught in many schools and colleges. A skilled Edu-K practitioner uses muscle testing to determine which parts of the brain are not integrated or switched on for enhanced learning or positive behaviors. Then a series of simple exercises are performed by the child (or adult) and), miraculously, the brain starts to function as it was intended. Contact the Edu-K Foundation at 800-356-2109 or (edukfd@earthlink.net) for information or a practitioner in your area.

Expert help: Probably one of the most well- known pioneers in the area of food and environmentally allergic children is Dr. Doris Rapp, M.D. In her book, Is This Your Child? Discovering and Treating Unrecognized Allergies in Children and Adults (Allergy Relief Foundation, 1-800-787-8780). Dr. Rapp (www.drrapp.com) documents actual cases of food sensitive and environmentally reactive children and their families who have returned to normal health by adhering to food avoidance programs, Candida Yeast eradication, and specific treatments.
Through her work, Doris Rapp has been a great mentor and inspiration to me, in my many years of involvement in environmental medicine. Her groundbreaking treatments have assisted countless families in living normal lives, and parents everywhere will be eternally grateful to her.

Positive Behaviors: If your child is having behavior problems, take a look at yourself as a parent. Often a disruptive child may be acting out your repressed behaviors. You may be holding it all together on the outside but on the inside you may feel overwhelmed, angry, or frustrated in some area of your life. Could your child be acting out some of your unexpressed emotions?

Relaxation Therapy CDs: Years ago to help my own children and the many children who were brought to me for assistance I created a series of Relaxation Therapy CDs and little comfort angel dolls. These are all available on my website www.carolinesutherland.com
By a fluke of inner guidance which started with my own children, I began to speak to them in a loving, quiet voice as they were going to sleep and after they had fallen asleep. The results were both immediate and remarkable. My method is outlined in my book Mommy I Hurt, Mommy I Love You and is based on the age-old method of sleep-learning and the power of affirmations.
In the past 25 years, I have personally witnessed positive dramatic changes in countless children. Parents exclaim that they finally got their son or daughter back when they eliminated offending foods and chemicals from the environment and did their best to comfort and reassure their children in a changing world.

Something Great for Children

Last month, I held my annual medical Intuitive training. It was atended by people from several countries including Canada. Michelle Greenwell hails from a small town in Alberta. She and illustrator Jan Mosimann together with musician Dan Devion have put together the most delightful story book and music CD - Stacey on the Keyboard. This is an action story about a little mouse who lives under a dance studio. She is able to make rhythms and dance up and down the keyboard. The children discovery her by accident in one of their classes, and she becomes a regular part of class. The music on the CD is used to bring the different parts of the story to life.

Take a look at www.dancedebut.com for an idea of Michelle's talent with children and call 403-932-5545 for the book and CD.

Looking for a good Astrologer?

This month I would like to recommend the services of Astrologer Lori Pettigrew. Often we find ourselves in a "stuck" place, needing clarification or direction. A good astrologer can reveal what the stars say about the timing of our lessons and our lives.

Years ago, at a friend's insistence, I had a session with one of Britain's most famous astrologers. He told me that "my life would begin at 60." This was not good news considering I was barely 40 years old at the time. His predictions turned out to be true. After I turned 60 I became a best selling author, I met my husband and have enjoyed much success, prosperity and fulfillment. So...there is something in the stars! If you are looking for an excellent astrologer I recommend Lori Pettigrew, also an attorney in her day job. Send her an email:

The Heart of the Family
Hearts Of The Family

Something New!

On the subject of children, I have just converted my video "The Heart of the Family: Strengthening the bond between parent and child" into DVD format.
I am just delighted to present a unique way to develop family communication.

Many years ago, I gave frequent presentations using a group of family "cut-out" figures. On the stage, I would move the cardboard family members around giving people a keen insight into the way they were currently communicating and tools for strengthening that communication - especially with blended families. It was a lot of fun.

I am so happy to share this project with you. There just could be a pearl or two that could help your family.
